With more than 200K Spotify streams, 15K monthly listeners and a #1 international iTunes smash, it’s easy to see why The Impersonators are fast becoming known as one of Finland’s finest pop rock exports. With the April 9th release of their “Scarlet Hell” music video, you might say the duo of Tom Tikka and Antti Autio are giving their oft-sunny harmony-laden pop productions a bit of a dark twist.
Tom Tikka explains, “This is a very difficult song to get into for me. It’s obvious to anyone reading the lyrics that ‘Scarlett Hell’ is about prostitution, or more specifically the dark side of prostitution that can include human trafficking, sexual slavery, drugs and occasionally…even murder. As the music video depicts, sometimes people who buy sex from the wrong prostitute, end up in a cardboard box. In case it doesn’t become clear that this song is anti-prostitution for all the aforementioned reasons, then I’ll make point about saying it clearly: this is an anti-prostitution song.”
He continues, “Musically, ‘Scarlet Hell’ is one of my favorite Impersonators tracks. Our producer Janne Saksa and I worked very hard on the arrangement. I like the Latin, Santana-feel the song has and also the solo, which was played completely off the cuff, is one of my better ones, I think.”

ABOUT THE IMPERSONATORS: Despite their poignant lyrics, The Impersonators are still a joyous and sweet proposition, with their vocal harmonies and chiming chords harking back to such 60s pop majesties as The Beatles, The Byrds and The Beach Boys. Together with their secret weapon, producer Janne Saksa, The Impersonators craft their lyrics and melodies into retro-flavoured “alternative pop/rock”. While adding a modern twist to the final soundscape, their goal is to nurture and cultivate the creativity, spirit, and warmth that graced the pop records of yesteryears.
