While anticipating the release of her newest single “Steady” coming out this Friday, we take a look at her current success “Must’ve Been Drunk.” Don’t we all want to find a love that is as smooth as a shot of Jameson? A lover that is just as sweet if not sweeter than a good red wine? Rising country songstress Chelsey James certainly thought she had found the right one; that is, until she realized he was nothing of the sort. James’ latest single, “Must’ve Been Drunk,” takes aim at her former lover, questioning what she saw in him all that time. When a relationship comes to an end it’s hard not to find yourself counting all the time you wasted on that person and wishing you had ended things sooner.
“Must’ve Been Drunk” is definitively one of the strongest songs James has released thus far, with her prominent vocals soaring over the track. “It’s time you can kiss my glass / Like when they turn on all the lights / Boy, this time it’s goodbye / Think it’s time for me to close my tab,” she belts on the second verse. Combining elements of pop and R&B, this country track highlights James’ strengths both as a country star with the ability to draw influences from other genres, and also as a vocalist with enough gusto to carry a track entirely on the strength of her vocal performance.
