Finding Balance With Musician And Radio Host Sarantos

It’s been a banner year so far for the multi-faceted artist known as Sarantos. The multi-talented artist, radio host, poet, author and singer-songwriter has been all over the radio and sales charts, peaking in the UK Top 5 with his single, “I Never Catch the Train.” With a new single on the way this July 1st, we caught up with the enigmatic artist for this exclusive interview…

Congratulations on the release of your latest single, “EyeBANGing.” What inspired you to write and record that song?

This fun pop dance song is about the uncomfortable situation we place others in when we cannot stop staring at them in a public venue. Beauty is often in the eye of the beholder but when beauty takes your breath away, we might not notice our mouths gaping open and our eyes bulging.  The message is to be respectful, courteous and tactful. This song pushes the envelope both lyrically and harmonically.

Besides being a very talented songwriter you are also a radio show host.  How do you find balance between the two?
I’m not sure that I do but I certainly try. We all get busy with life and we’re always on the verge of quitting one thing or another but we just need to persevere and push through. Remember why you’re doing this in the first place and if you love what you’re doing, then there really none of it is work.

Were you involved with music as a teenager?  Did you play in any bands back then?  How did you get started?
I was always being in concert and singing downstairs in our family room! I tried unsuccessfully many many times to get a garage band with many different friends but it never worked out. I always dreamed of making music and playing big stages worldwide with my song blasting on every radio station – this dream started as a teenager and it has never gone away.

How would you describe your brand of music to someone who has never heard of Sarantos?
I’ve always been a rocker at heart.  I’m also an 80s child. So the best way I can describe my music is a fusion of 80s rock mixed with modern pop and rock elements.

How would you describe a Sarantos fan?
Probably someone was a bit of a nerd or geek like me and just loves music. Someone who doesn’t wanna hear the same thing over and over again and likes to experiment.

What gives you the most joy when you are on stage?
To see fans singing back at me, there’s something about a fan singing your words back to you that it’s just a whole other level.

Tell us about your best performance you’ve ever had?  How about the worst?
Probably Toronto music festival for both of them. It was a great high but two weeks before the festival, the Band I hired to support me told me they can’t get their passports and couldn’t make it. It was a mad dash to try to find a cover band or someone to play my songs with me!

What is the highlight of your music career, so far?
Having someone submit a song for me to the Grammys and having my submission accepted for a Grammy nomination for rock song of the year in 2017!

What does Sarantos like to do when he’s not making music?
Read comics, work out and create!

What is up next for you in 2021?

I am currently working on my next music video launch.  I just had a song place on the top 5 in the UK for iTunes on the Singer Songwriter charts. It’s going to be an exciting year!!
