Single Review: Pete Miller “I Wrote Hannah a Letter”

Pete Miller is an artist who wants to make a name for himself singing “everyman songs.” As someone who’s been through the wringer working many heavy duty jobs, he’s committed to making music that is raw, unpolished and unfiltered, that will touch the heart of the average person. He’s not about showing off, or chasing down glory that’s outside of his purview, but instead on simple stories like the one in today’s single on review, “I Wrote Hannah A Letter.”

From the first few seconds of “I Wrote Hannah A Letter,” it’s instantly apparent just how different the single is from anything else you’d find on the radio. Taking influences from country music but dabbed with influences of alternative and punk music, Pete Miller manages to carve out for himself a surprising niche. “I Wrote Hannah A Letter” excels as a song by putting forward a “less is more” mentality, and the simplicity of it all adds a ton to the song’s atmosphere.

Musically, there’s nothing to really talk about here because the only instrument involved is Pete Miller’s acoustic guitar. It’s almost akin to listening to someone sing over a campfire, and it definitely helps with the way Pete passionately sings every passage. There is, however, a certain sense of urgency when it comes to Pete’s performance here, and we enjoyed it a lot. “I Wrote Hannah A Letter” is at its best when it’s a sentimental story between the listener and its storyteller.

Songs like these are carried by their singers’ vocal performance, so how does Pete Miller fare in that regard? Well, there’s no worries here as the highlight of the song comes from Pete’s vocal performance, really displaying some intense determination and emotional chops. While things aren’t changed up much, the song maintains its emotional gravitas and ambiance quite well.

On top of that, the energy never lets up throughout the single’s run time. “I Wrote Hannah A Letter” is a constant drone of Pete Miller’s vocals, stacked along the sweet sounds of his acoustic guitar. There’s a lot to love in regards to Pete’s performance in this single. It’s such a deeply personal retelling of a story that it’s impossible not to get invested in it.

“I Wrote Hannah A Letter” is a monumental achievement in regards to its songwriting and a showcase of Pete Miller’s skill in the medium. We really can’t recommend it enough, especially if you’re  fan of story forward country music. We’re eager to see more from Pete Miller, and we can’t wait for what’s next for him!
